Glittery Christmas Elf Marci (workshop)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Hopefully 2013 is a great year!  Everyone knows how hard it is to keep a
New Years resolution.  That is if you choose to even make one!
Mine was to try and buy less crafts and use up the stash I have because
my craft room is busting at the seams!! But I'm pretty sure I'll break
that resolution! I just need a bigger craft room!!

Here is project #2 from the workshop I took in early December with
Irina Blount of LaLaLand Crafts.  I was really excited about this one
because it was a new approach to coloring for me: coloring ON glitter!
It was a little challenging at first but it actually is easier than I thought.
My pics do not give the glittery effect justice because I'm not using
a great camera.  But in real life it is super sparkly!!

Left and right side views to try and show the many layers.

The glitter was Glitter Ritz and it was burnished onto double stick paper.
The image is then stamped on top of the glitter and colored.
Who woulda thunk it?? :)

Here I'm trying to show the paper pleating of the printed green paper.
I love how it gives a lot of dimension.  I also love the candy cane yarn.

And last the inside of the card!  Irina always stamps the inside of her cards
with the same image that is on the front and I think it just adds so much!!
So as far as supplies go, of course the image is LaLaLand Crafts.
She is called Christmas Elf Marci.   All the dies used are also LLL Crafts.
They are Christmas tree, holly flourish, large flourish, rolled roses and lotus.
The little ivory dots are pearl paint.

Thanks for looking!

HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD!!

The red carpet season is fast approaching here in the US and I love watching all the Awards shows!!  I absolutely love movies and these award presentations help me celebrate all the movies I've loved, or should have seen-and loved, throughout the year!  Plus, who doesn't love seeing all the glamorous women in their beautiful gowns and the men looking so coiffed in their tuxes??  For those of you who love them as much as I do, here are the scheduled air dates:

People's Choice Awards:  January 9
Critics Choice Awards:  January 10
Golden Globe Awards:  January 13
Screen Actor's Guild:  January 27
Academy Awards:  February 24

Saturated Canary's current challenge is called "song inspiration" and it's only appropriate that my song be "Hooray for Hollywood". "Hooray for Hollywood" is a song first featured in the 1937 movie Hollywood Hotel, and which has since become the staple soundtrack element of any Academy Award ceremony.  I have a link to a quick video of the song performed by Doris Day and I added the lyrics just for fun.

Hooray for Hollywood
That screwy, ballyhooey Hollywood
Where any office boy or young mechanic
Can be a panic, with just a goodlooking pan
Where any barmaid can be a star maid
If she dances with or without a fan
Hooray for Hollywood
Where you're terrific, if you're even good
Where anyone at all from TV's Lassie
To Monroe's chassis is equally understood
Go out and try your luck, you might be Donald Duck
Hooray for Hollywood
Hooray for Hollywood
That phoney, super coney Hollywood
They come from Chillicothes and Padukahs
With their bazookas to get their names up in lights
All armed with photos from local rotos
With their hair in ribbons and legs in tights
Hooray for Hollywood
You may be homely in your neighborhood
But if you think that you can an actor
See Mr. Factor, he'd make a monkey look good
With a half an hour, you'll look like Tyrone Power
Hooray for Hollywood

Onto my card now.   I made this for my sister Jo, the co-owner of this blog.  We recently celebrated her 50th birthday in Las Vegas and I wanted to make her a card that showed how fabulous she is!!  I love and miss her so much and she so deserves the red carpet treatment!!

This card is huge measuring 8X8.  But again, I wanted it to be fabulous and over-the-top for this special event!!  I started with a Simply Sassy rubber stamp called 5th Avenue and she definitely fits the theme.  The background stamp is from Make It Crafty and is called Red Carpet.  How appropriate right?  They go so well together.

So much bling was added to this card to give it an old Hollywood feel:
feathers, leopard print, diamonds, gold, mirrors (paper), and plenty of red and black!

Red felt became her carpet...

some black netting and flowers...

I drew in some extra long lashes for added glamour and glittered her shoes gold.

and what red carpet event would be complete without a dramatic curtain?

a close-up of the embossing was tricky on this gold mirrored paper...

I hope you enjoy this post and if you are so kind to add a comment,  I would love to know what were some of your favorite movies this year?  Or favorite movie of all time?  (Not required obviously, just if you have a little time to join in on the fun).  Some of my favorite movies from this year are Skyfall, Brave, The Hunger Games, The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman, Rock of Ages and Argo.  One of my favorite movies of all time is Legends of the Fall.  Yes, this movie can be quite depressing.  Especially if you've watched it 20 times like someone who will remain unnamed. (ok, it's me:)  But I love period pieces and I LOVE Brad Pitt in long hair!  hehe
